Who I Am & How I Teach

My name is Trevor Hochman. I am a professional tutor specializing in test preparation aimed at achieving elite scores and academic tutoring for top grades. I graduated from Hunter College High School and earned my BA from Yale and my JD from Columbia with highest honors. I earned a perfect SAT score and a 99th percentile LSAT score. I've taught standardized test prep for Kaplan and The Princeton Review and as an independent tutor for hundreds of successful students over the course of more than ten years.

I've analyzed my own study and test-taking methods, techniques taught and recommended by test prep and tutoring organizations and publishers, and my teaching experience to understand the most effective techniques to improve scores and grades. I work with each student to develop and hone the methods that work best for you. Patience, good humor, understanding, persistence, and faith in my students' abilities are key components of my teaching approach.

My teaching method combines rigorous emphasis on fundamentals with a systematic approach to achieving high performance on exams and evaluations. My students and I enjoy our work, taking advantage of the material to broaden and deepen our knowledge and interests. I think my students would agree that learning is not just more enjoyable but more effective when it's fun and enlightening rather than tedious and burdensome.

My students are capable and persistent and tend to achieve their goals, whether they be perfect or near-perfect test scores or improvements by leaps and bounds in formerly troubled fundamental areas. We do our best to use our work together to cultivate a personal culture of scholarship that enhances our learning and performance across the academic spectrum.
